Getting to Know You Task Cards: What's Your Order?

Updated: Jul 25

Getting to know you task cards. What's your order?

There's one thing that brings all of us together. It isn't books or TV shows, movies or Youtube videos. It's FOOD! Because who doesn't like food? When it comes to school, I think about the different foods they serve on different days. Hamburgers on Monday and nachos on Tuesday; pizza on Wednesday and Frito Pie on Friday. (I can never remember what they serve on Thursday). Food is the one thing that unites us all, so why not use it to help students get to know each other?

Food & Task Cards

If you don't know, task cards are a way to shorten longer tasks into shorter tasks. For example, I can break a 2 page long passage into 5 parts and assign questions to each part. Doing this is helpful because it makes the 2 page passage easier to handle, as well as allows students to easily show what they do, or do not, know. I used food to create the below task cards and man, are there SO many benefits!

Getting To Know You Task Cards: What's Your Order?

In this set of task cards, students get to use popular restaurants and their food/drinks to answer and ask questions about themselves and the people in their class. They're fairly straightforward to use. In fact, the only hiccup could be deciding which set to use with each class, group, or student!

Chipotle

What is your perfect burrito? Remember, you need:

1 Protein, 1 Type of Rice (or no rice), 1 Type of Bean, 1 Topping, & 1 Drink!

In this product, a question is assigned to each item and, in the end, students get to make their own "Chipotle Burrito!" My students LOVE this product and who wouldn't? The chance to talk about food, especially Chipotle is never a bad idea.

What-A-Burger

I may have an unhealthy obsession with What-A-Burger not only do I eat their food, I buy their clothes and subscribe to their mailing list. Yes, it's that serious to me lol.

If I were to image a day of eating nothing but What-A-Burger, I would think of: my favorite breakfast, lunch, and side. In this product, students get to the do same while answering questions tied to their "perfect order." Let students explore getting to know each other using this Texas staple!

Chick-Fil-A

I'm pretty sure Chick-Fil-A is a way of life and I am totally okay with that. Anytime my students talk about getting Chick-Fil-A, I audibly say how lucky they are and what did they order. Why not use this timeless restaurants foods to help students get to know each other?

Students get to create their own breakfast (entree, side, and drink) and lunch (entree, side, treat). With each item, students answer and ask questions about each other. Your students will LOVE this product!

Starbucks

Whether I'm going to the store or making coffee at home, Starbucks is literally a part of my life. Upside caramel macchiatto with an extra shot of expresso, please?! On this same note, students also love Starbucks! Now, whether they should be drinking Starbucks as a kid is up for debate, but regardless, let your students explore their particular tastes to create their Starbucks order while practicing essential skills!

Students start by selecting their favorite drink, and then complete the task card that matches their drink!

What do you think? You can use popular restaurants to help students get to know each other! If you want to save money, look at the bundle of "What's Your Order?" task cards below. Getting to Know You Task Cards: What's Your Order?
